Twitter Celebrates 7th Birthday

Bangalore: The social networking giant, Twitter celebrates its 7th birthday with 200 million users worldwide. Twitter, or Twttr and originally known as “stat.us” came into social life on March 21, 2006, when co-founder Jack Dorsey posted the first ever tweet, “just setting up my twttr”.

Since that tweet, more than 200 million people have joined the network and the site is filled with 400 million tweets every day. The latest high profile person to join Twitter was George Osborne, Chancellor who signed up few hours before delivering his budget statement.

Currently people use Twitter to campaign, share and discuss views, news, challenge authority as well as catch the attention of pop star Justin Bieber, one of the most followed celebrities in Twitter.

According to a Brandwatch study published last week, it reveals that women talk more on Twitter about personal matters, television and work, while men are tweet about sports, gaming and news. Overall, it says, television is the most accepted topic for tweets, followed by celebrities, music and sports.
