The World's Fastest Mobile Processor- Nvidia's Tegra 4 Unveiled At CES

Bangalore: Nvidia unveiled its Tegra 4 mobile processor at CES 2013 in Las Vegas; claiming it to be world’s fastest mobile chip ever, reports ZDNet.

Phil Carmack, senior vice president of Nvidia's Tegra arm, talked about chip's potential in powering current and future mobile devices at the unveiling event.

The chip was previously code named “Wayne”; it was built with 72 custom Nvidia GeForce GPU cores giving it six-times the graphics processing power than its predecessor Tegra 3. Aiding this robust GPU is a new quad-core variant of ARM's Cortex-A15 CPU; a chip that Nvidia claims, kicks up the mobile web browsing and performance of apps 2.6x times than the current speed.

The chip comes with worldwide support for 4G LTE voice data by utilizing the optional fifth-generation Nvidia Icera i500 chipset, the feature which was absent in Tegra 3. It is power efficient than conventional modems and comes in 40 percent smaller the size than its predecessor, yet packs four times the processing capability. The chip also offers power resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600 and 1080p at 120Hz.
