Samsung Outdo Apple In US Mobile Market For First Time


Bangalore: Its twist in the tale, Samsung has outdone Apple in its home market by being the leading handset manufacturer in the U.S.  for the month of October 2012, the first time ever for Samsung.

According to the ComScore, the Internet analytics company, Samsung is the leader in U.S. mobile market currently.  

The report reveals that Samsung, with 26.3 percent of the market share, up by 0.7 percent from July 2012, became the leading handset manufacturer while Apple has 17.8 percent market share, up by 1.5 percent from July 2012. Google’s Android is the leading OS among Smartphones with 53.6 percent of Smartphone subscribers, while Apple’s iOS has 34.3 percent.  

 LG was placed third with 17.5 percent share, followed by Motorola with 11 percent and HTC with 6 percent.  

There are currently 121.3 million Smartphone users in U.S. according to the report and it roughly constitutes 51.9 percent of the mobile market, up by 6 percent since July.

Samsung Galaxy S III became the highest sold Smartphone with an estimated 18 million sales in the third quarter of 2012, according to the research firm Strategy Analytics, whereas iPhone 4S sales were 16.9 million and iPhone 5 launch did not effect the numbers so much to put Apple in top position either.
