Samsung Gets Sued By Apple For $2 Billion, Gets Google Involved

BANGALORE: Apple vs Samsung court drama is set again, unlike last time the two tech giants are suing each other simultaneously over software patent infringements. The Cupertino based Apple is suing the South Korean electronics giant Samsung for over $2 billion while later is suing back the former for over $7 million.

According to the attorney of the South Korean Company, Peter Quinn, none of the accused features on the list where copied by Samsung and they were designed independently by the software engineers at Google. He also defended the case by saying “this is the newest phase in the ‘holy war’ against Android that Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs declared in a 2010 email,” and added that the real target in this trial is not the devices from Samsung. There are examples of Apple also suing the Android device makers like HTC and Motorola.

"Don't be misled by that," Apple lead attorney Harold McElhinny told the jury. "This case is not about Google. It is Samsung that has made the decision to copy these features, it is Samsung, not Google, that chooses to put these features into their phones, and it is Samsung that has made the decision to keep on infringing on Apple's patents."

The trial took place at U.S. District Court in San Jose, and it is second time the court has become the battle ground for two tech giants. In the previous trial in 2012 over hardware patent issues, the court ordered in favor of Apple which fetched them $930 million from Samsung. But the court order didn’t ban the sale of the devices alleged carrying infringed features.
