Octa-core Processors Are "Dumb": Qualcomm

Bangalore: Octa-core processors are “dumb,” as consumers favor a good experience over just throwing couple of cores together at them, a Qualcomm’s top executive said. The statement was in reference to new octa-core fever that is gaining ground, especially among Smartphone and tablet manufacturers.

Anand Chandrasekhar, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President, said that thinking only in terms of cores instead of consumer needs was "silly," and as a result these octa-core monsters are not going to be successful in the long run, as reported in the transcript of his comments to Taiwan media provided on Friday.

"You can't take eight lawnmower engines, put them together and now claim you have an eight-cylinder Ferrari," said Chandrasekher. He said that Qualcomm focuses on giving consumers a good experience which includes good modems, long battery life, and then an affordable price point.
