New Delhi: Indian Railways have just launched online application RailRadar, where one can find the exact geographical location of about 6,500 trains on a Google maps on real time basis.

The system enables a colour code method as trains highlighted in blue indicate those that are running on time while the red markers indicate the trains that are delayed or behind schedule.

Railways operate more than 10,000 trains everyday but currently the RailRadar can spot about 6500 trains, said a senior Railway Ministry official involved with the project.

If you click on a particular train, the map will show the exact route of the train including all the stops and the current location of the train on a real time basis.

RailRadar can be accessed through the railway website - trainenquiry.com.

Inorder to know the current running status of the train, one can either enter the name of the train, or the train number, and the system will tell you whether that particular train is delayed or running on time.

One can also see all the trains which are arriving at the station or have just departed with the name of the station.

“We have launched the RailRadar on a pilot basis and later on it will be a permanent feature. You no longer have to remember train numbers," the official said. "Just enter any two station names (like Delhi to Bhubaneswar) and it will bring all the trains available on that route."

Once the train is spotted, one can learn about the train's departure time at the previous two stations that the train has crossed, how far the next two stations on the route are, and what is the expected time of arrival at these stops.

All these details will help a passenger better plan his arrival to the station.
