NDS Announces The Opening Of State Of The Art R&D Campus In Bangalore


Bangalore: NDS, now part of Cisco, celebrates the opening of its new R&D campus in Bangalore as it reaches 12 years of operations in India. With the changing dynamics of the pay-TV industry in India, this announcement reinforces the company’s on-going commitment to the market. The new campus is NDS’ largest R&D facility and will support development for nearly 50% of the company’s service provider customers around the world.

 The new R&D campus was inaugurated by Jesper Andersen, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cisco’s Service Provider Video Technology Group. Addressing NDS staff at the event, Andersen discussed the evolution of Cisco, with NDS, in India to become the leader in providing digital pay-TV technologies to some of the most important DTH and cable operators in the country with more than 40% market share and technology in over 20 million digital TV homes. He also spoke about the opening of the R&D campus as a reinforcement of Cisco’s emphasis on driving innovation in emerging markets. 

 Key Highlights of the NDS R&D Campus: Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, NDS’ R&D campus is spread across 330,000 sq. ft. and is capable of scaling up from its current 2,100 skilled technical and development employees. It is a state-of-the- art and eco-friendly facility, designed to provide a productive working environment that meets and exceed the needs of the company’s engineers to develop leading software for its customers.

 Located on the Sarjapur Outer Ring Road along with several technology giants, the new R&D campus will become a software powerhouse for the continued development of innovative digital-TV solutions that are changing the way people are entertained and informed around the world. The NDS R&D centre in Bangalore plays a key role in the company’s global development activity, with full product management and product ownership. The centre provides support for market-leading operators worldwide including Astro (Malaysia), BSkyB (UK), CCTV (China), DIRECTV (US) and Sky Italia (Italy) to name but a few.

Whilst the Bangalore Centre supports innovative development worldwide, the R&D centre in India also strives to provide locally-developed solutions and set-top-box integration services specifically for the Indian market. Solutions developed locally in Bangalore enable the launch of digital platforms with a full roadmap of features and functionality for small and medium-sized operators looking to digitalize their service ahead of the deadlines in the mandate, including hosted solutions to enable a fully managed service that reduces upfront software, hardware and integration cost.
