More Apps, Less Downloads: Research

BANGALORE: A research was recently conducted to show that most of the people in U.K, but which is true all around the world, hardly download new apps. This is a concern for independent app builders because most Smartphone users are satisfied with the apps that they already have since it automatically gets updated. "When you had 20 percent of people with smartphones they were mainly early adopters," explains Paul Lee, head of research for technology at Deloitte, reports the Independent.

The reason behind this gradual decrease in the number of downloads for apps are believed to be the higher usage of smartphones by older people. We don’t always have the leisure to go through the million apps that comes our way.

This research though continues to be a speculation because there is a balance. This shows that there are two facets to this decline: one where people don’t download anything at all and on the other hand those who download only specific apps that concerns them.

Whereas Tech Giants are not going to feel a pinch with the decline of app downloads because most apps that we use everyday belong to these giants. Lee also insisted on the same lines that there is room for innovation with new hardware being invented, so over all it still gives independent builders a fighting chance.

He went on to quickly say that this doesn’t mean the Apps Economy is stable. Some companies are losing huge sum of money, like popular online games Farmville and the candy crush saga.

There is optimism when it comes to the rise and fall of apps and this depends on the popularity and reach of customers.
