Microsoft Gets In the Ring With Google's Android, Offers Free WP OS To Indian Manufacturers

BANGALORE: Microsoft is all set to give its mobile platform for free to two of Indian phone makers, Lava and Karbonn, who already have many popular Android models to their name.  If Microsoft’s announcements made at World Congress in Barcelona last month is to be considered, some more mobile makers, both Indian and international, are to get the offer from the company, reports Times Of India.

Sometime back last year there were reports that the Microsoft was in talks with local manufacturers like Micromax, Karbonn and Lava for cheaper Windows handsets. However the deal was only signed when Microsoft agreed to axe the license fee on the OS. This is contrary to the past deals from Microsoft which never gave its OS free of cost even to Nokia which agreed to stick with the company’s mobile platform. Licensing has always been a way of livelihood for the company and apparently charged $20 to $30 on each Lumia handset sold by the Nokia.
