Micromax Offers A Deal to Ericsson After Patent Infringement

Bangalore: Micromax has now promised to workout a patent deal with Ericsson, after being sued for about 100 crore in damages over patent infringement, reports TOI.

On Monday, Delhi High Court, acting on the lawsuit filed by Ericsson, had  told Micromax to pay royalties on every phone and tablet it sells as part of an interim arrangement before the two firms finalize their patent deal by April 9.

The Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer had told the court that Micromax has refused to enter into a licensing agreement covering its patented innovations across several wireless technology standards such as GSM, Edge and 3G.

The disputed handsets and tablets of Micromax include selected models from its popular Ninja series, Funbook Talk, and the Canvas 2 series.

In a recent development, Micromax is said to have extended an olive branch by negotiating FRAND (fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory) license with Ericsson. However the terms of the negotiation are not declared yet.
