Meet Facebook's First "Woman On Board"

Bangalore: Facebook now has a ‘woman on board’; Sheryl Sandberg is now the first woman to be on the board of this giant social network. She has been largely responsible for building Facebook's advertising business and has helped the company during various times as its Chief Operating Officer.

Sheryl has always been on the wish list of the fortune 500 companies, for her bright voice as an operating officer. She was lured from Google in 2008 by Facebook, as the latter looked upon for betterment in management and work execution.  She has constantly tried her best to bring out changes and has been a great support to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO.

Mark apparently stated that “Sheryl has been my partner in running Facebook and has been central to our growth and success over the years” He also said that “Her understanding of our mission and long-term opportunity, and her experience both at Facebook and on public company boards makes her a natural fit for our board."

Sheryl was also termed as an ‘angel sent by God to help business’ earlier by many entrepreneurs. Her smart and active attitude has brought her this fortune and luck together. She has been hard working and represented Facebook during various occasions when Mark preferred to sit back and develop the site a lot more to perfection.

This 42 year old American business woman has made it to the board with her hard work but few people says it is out of mere pressure from certain activists that Facebook made this decision. There were many arguments and statements made on Facebook for not having a woman on board. Ultraviolet, a group that has been asking Facebook to add women to its board, said “We hope this is a first step for Facebook and in the coming months more women will be added to their board. In addition, we hope that other companies with all-male boards, particularly those in the tech sector, will follow Facebook's lead.''

Sheryl has a strong background in business; she has been on the board of The Walt Disney group. Now, she joins the board with Mark Zuckerberg, Netflix chief Reed Hastings and entrepreneurs Marc Andreessen, James Breyer and Peter Thiel. Also on the board are Donald Graham, CEO of The Washington Post, and Erskine Bowles, president emeritus of the University of North Carolina system.
