Is Microsoft Afraid To Launch Surface Tablet In India?

Latest data from market research firm IDC shows the Windows 8-based device has made little headway in the global tablet market. Between January and March 2013, Microsoft sold 900,000 tablets globally. During the same period, Apple sold 19.5 million iPads, according IDC.

Kevin Turner, COO, Microsoft, at an event in Bangalore said that the company is working on device at lower price point, but wouldn’t spill the beans on what these devices were or how soon these products will be launched in India. While lower price points may help Microsoft, the fifth-largest tablet vendor in terms of shipments, to increase its sales but its operating system which failed drastically to increase PC sales, may yet hinder the process. The global PC shipment fell 14 percent in the first quarter of 2012, according to IDC.
