Internet Turns 25, Has Changed The World For Better


BANGALORE: Twenty-five years ago, the concept of World Wide Web was developed by the British Computer Scientist, Tim Berners-Lee. He provided this idea mainly for sharing the information using different computers between his colleagues at CERN, which finally paved the way for a global phenomenon that has changed the lives of billion of people.

This idea came to Berners-Lee while he was working under CERN physics laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. On March 12, 1989 Berners-Lee presented the idea which the history has marked it as the birthday of World Wide Web. At the beginning there was great amount of hubris in the proposal and was initially rejected by Tim’s boss at the Swiss physics laboratory. The proposal was not accepted till Berners-Lee proposed the three technologies HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) and HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) by which the web was created.
