Bangalore: Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 8, which is set to be released exactly one month from now, had received a harsh comment from Intel CEO Paul Otellini. While addressing employees in Taiwan, the CEO of Microsoft’s biggest partner said the OS is being released before it’s fully ready.

According to Business Insider, Microsoft is eager to extent the first version of its new mobile operating system into computers and tablets before the holiday shopping season. “Releasing the OS before completion is a good market move, added that, improvements should be carried out to make Os fully functional,” said Otellini.

Intel, the biggest semiconductor maker, is Microsoft’s closest partner, and the statements from its CEO may sound harsh and criticizing. But it reflects the opinions of analysts like Michael Cherry of Directions on Microsoft. “While Windows is fundamentally sound, the operating system lacks a wide range of robust applications and PC makers haven’t had enough time to work out kinks with so-called drivers, which connect software to hardware, such as printers,” he said.

But considering Microsoft, who has the habit of releasing software before it’s completely ready and updating it on the fly, the bad remarks seem less concerning. “With over 16 million active preview participants, Windows 8 is the most tested, reviewed and ready operating system in Microsoft’s history,” said Mark Martin, a spokesman for Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft.

Microsoft would surely be coming up with fixes, which would be made available to users through regular updates of the system, in a similar way like that of Windows Vista and Windows 7. But we hope the new OS won’t repeat the fate of Vista.
