Indians Revolutionizing The World Of Gesture Control Tech

Bangalore: For the proud lazy bones, who find heaven’s comfort in couch in front of TV; who prayed hard for an alternative to reduce the labor of punching on remote control, the prayer is answered. Now you can make your TV act the way you want, just with gestures. The TV will turn off itself if you move away from couch, it flickers to life once you are back, and you can say ‘sshh’ to mute it, reports TOI.

A California-based company, Cube26, founded by Aakash Jain, which was formerly known as PredictGaze, has developed a novel software that allows computers, TVs and mobiles to detect facial expressions, gestures and movements using the devices' camera from a distance of 12 feet, and react to them.

"A single camera, and it can even be a VGA camera, is sufficient for our system to work. The camera could be one that's integrated into the device or it could be in a separate device like a set-top box," says Jain.

Jain started PredictGaze as a project at Cornell University when he was doing his Masters' in electrical and computer engineering. He along with Saurav Kumar and Abhilekh Agarwal from Cornell, joined together to take the project forward. The trio was declared winners at Startup Mega Weekend organized by Microsoft.
