Government Spying More Than Ever. Google Says

Bangalore: Government surveillance of citizen’s online lives is raising sharply demanding user’s data more than ever, without prior warrants.

A recently released Google’s Transparency Report revealed the information on how frequently the FBI agents and the local cops made two-thirds of the requests through a subpoena to snoop into the Google users’ information. Google said that, since 2009, there has been an increase of more than 70 percent in user data requests of all kinds. The company received 8, 438 total requests for information and about 14, 791 users or accounts in the United States.

The search engine giant has been disclosing information for the law enforcement for the past three years, which makes it one of the few email providers to do so. Gradually the number of requests has risen due to the increased number of users and data.

John Simpson, a consumer advocate with Consumer Watchdog, agreed. "I am alarmed by the number of government requests and concerned that so many are done with merely a subpoena," he said. "A warrant should be required."
