Google Working on an Android TV to Rival Apple and Amazon

BANGALORE: Google is apparently working on its own version of Android TV, to rival against Apple TV and Amazon’s recently launched Fire TV, as reported by TOI.

The technology site Verge claims that; Android TV, Google’s new platform will turn the television in to “an entertainment interface, not a computing platform”.

The report states that the interface will contain the set of scrolling cards, which represent apps, movies, shows and games. Google recommended the developers to create simple Android TV applications by avoiding unnecessary features such as cameras, telephony, touch screen and near-field communication, reports added. The search engine has also created ready -made interfaces for enabling the developers to plug in music, films, shows, photos and games.

With a remote control that contains four-way directional pad, you can scroll left and right through different suggestions, or up and down through different categories of content. The remote control also contains Home, Enter, Back buttons and it also includes ‘optional’ game controllers like Amazon's Fire TV. Google’s Android TV also supports voice input and notifications.

Verge states that, the screenshot they have obtained reveals Google’s own apps such as YouTube, Play Movies, and Hangouts, and also third party apps such as Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, Vevo, and games. This indicates that Google is collaborating with content providers for the service.

According to a GigaOO report, Google had combined Its TV platform with Android and renamed it as Android TV, by citing an executive assisting a customer electronics developer that consider Google TV as a source. This report also declared that Google TV partners such as STMicroelectronics, Sony and LG had stopped supporting Android TV with their new devices. Google uses the cloud storage for copying the content played on computers and Mobiles. Android TV device was initially made available only for U.S, but now Google has already promoted in other markets as well.
