Google Will Now Manage Your Digital Assets After Your Death

Bangalore: Breathe out your last in peace, as Google's new 'Inactive Account Manager' feature gives the user an option to choose what should happen to their account if not used for a long period of time.

This all new feature from Google would help the user to create their own automated digital will that allows them to decide what to be done to their digital assets like account from Gmail, Picasa photos, Google Drive documents and other important information or data stored up with Google.

"We hope that this new feature will enable you to plan your digital afterlife — in a way that protects your privacy and security — and make life easier for your loved ones after you're gone,” said Google in the blog post.

To make the will, users need to login to their Google account settings and choose what Google should do if the account is found inactive for a long period of time.

Google allows the user to choose a time-frame of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months of inactivity. User is given the advantage of choosing options like sharing their account with family and friends after the specified time-frame; keep the account private where Google can automatically delete it after the time frame or keep the account in pause as per settings.

After the completion of time-frame specified by the user, Google will warn them through an E-mail or by text message, depending on circumstances. If the user is not deceased he can postpone the time-frame to a future date and if there is no response from the user, Google then shares the account information or deletes the account, according to the user’s digital will.
