Apple still dominates the Smartphone arena with the superior design and hardware of the iPhone but it is time someone raised the question, ‘Is that enough for Apple to retain its consumers?’

Google on the other hand, being as dynamic as it is, has come up with the OS for the Samsung’s Chromebook – A threat to another Giant – Microsoft.

So far Google has been playing the game from the sidelines, garnering its strength by monitoring the users of its applications and gathering its revenue from selling ads that appear on the phones. But now, it has decided to take the frontlines. An Android OS – the operating system that dominates the Smartphones has now decided to take over the PC. Will it succeed?

What Google is doing trying to do with the Chrome OS, is exactly the opposite of what Microsoft is doing with its Windows Phone 8, – jumping from the phone to the computer. One gets the gist, after knowing that, even though Samsung’s Chromebook has a separate OS than the Android which is far from perfect, over 200,000 units are said to be sent in for production and will be available in the first quarter of this year.

What will happen if Google comes out with a new improved and fully functional Android based Operating system that allows you to do things in your Personal computer that you cannot do now with your windows OS? What will happen when such an item hits the eyes of the ever hungry consumers?

Naturally, users and enterprises will not make the switch until and unless they are convinced that it will be worth the switch and more importantly, that it will offer more than its predecessor. But just the thought of it happening is enough to unnerve the Redmond Software giant’s CEO, Steve Ballmer.

There is no clue when users may begin to make the jump. It may take decades or more, but, Google is coming after the two big guns and the stuff of nightmares will soon become a reality if nothing is done about it.
