Google, Facebook Grabs Lion's Share in Mobile Advertising


BANGALORE: Mobile device advertising is gaining its esteem globally. The market is doubled in 2013 to $17.9 billion and market giant Facebook and Google have gained the maximum profit, according to eMarketer’s research. “A mobile ad spending increased by 105 per cent in 2013 and is expected to jump another 75 per cent in 2014 to more than $34 billion,” said the research firm, reports AFP.

Both Facebook and Google grabbed the largest share of the market driving around $6.92 billion collectively in net mobile ad revenues in 2013. Facebook, being the most ‘in’ thing globally, became the biggest gainer in 2013 whose market share jumped to 17.5 percent from 5.4 percent. However, Google gave crushing challenge to its rival but its market share dipped down to 49.3 percent in 2013 from 52.6 percent in 2012.

Mobile platforms have gained its glare of publicity for most of the companies as it brings enormous growth.  Not only Facebook and Google, Twitter also witnessed gains but its share was a modest 2.4 percent from 1.5 percent back in 2012. eMarketer perceives that Google, Facebook and Twitter will gain at 46.8, 21.7 and 2.6 percent respectively in 2014. Adding to that, 11 percent of Facebook ad revenues worldwide came from mobile in 2012 but in 2013, the figure jumped upto 45 percent and is expected to increase by 63 percent this year. Google is expected to get a third of its revenue from mobile this year, up from 23 percent in 2013, the report said.
