Facebook Lite To Debut In India Soon

Bangalore: Facebook, the social networking giant is now turning its attention to feature phones after Smartphones and tablets. The new step is to expand its base beyond present more than a billion users, reports Times Of India.

Though the feature phones are largely extinct in U.S., Europe, and Canada, they yet have strong user base in the developing countries like India and Brazil.

The project, Facebook was quietly working on for two years called as ‘Facebook for Every Phone,” will be announced soon. More than 100 million people, or roughly 1 out of 8 of its mobile users worldwide, now access the site from more than 3,000 different models of feature phones, some of them costing as low as $20. And many of these users who come from developing or poorer countries pay little or nothing to download their Facebook news feeds and photos with data subsidy from phone carriers and manufacturers. The countries like India, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil and Vietnam - are among the fastest-growing markets for use of the Internet and social networks, according to the research firm eMarketer.
