Do You Know The Internet Speed At PMO?

BANGALORE: Usually you can find internet plans with 2 Mbps or 4 Mbps. But do you know, what is the internet speed available at PMO’s office? It’s a whooping 34 Mbps. With this gigantic speed one can imagine his 1080 P movie downloading within seconds. Isn’t?

Vinoth Ranganathan, co-founder of onlinerti.com, the PMO has said the National Informatics Centre (NIC) is providing an average of 34Mbps speed to the PMO office, reports the Times of India.

Looking close to the situation this is nothing as Google fibre in U.S. provides surprising 1Gbps connectivity to ordinary citizens.  Even in India, there is a Startup Village in Kochi that has a 1 Gbps internet connection that is almost 30 times more than the speed of our PMO.

Going into the details, an average human in India is liable for an average peak speed of 14 Mbps but startling only 1.2 percent internet users in India can enjoy more than 10 Mbps speed.

According to Ranganathan, “The computers at the PMO continue to work on Windows 7/ Windows 8 even after the Edward Snowden episode. But countries like China has banned Windows 8 operating systems from government computers because of security concerns,” reports TOI.

The RTI application has also found that no amount is being spent to maintain the PMO's official Twitter handle, PMO @PMOIndia. The official Twitter handle has more than 3 million followers and over 1,700 tweets.
