Cofounder Of Yandex, Russia's Biggest Search Engine Dies At 48
Bangalore: The co-founder of Russia’s largest search engine Yandex, Ilya Segalovich has died after being taken out of life support at a London Hospital.
Segalovich, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year, had later developed brain cancer, which lead to the death. He was in coma from Tuesday and the brain cells has stopped functioning, following which the doctors decided to end life support.
Ilya founded Yandex along with his school friend Arkady Volozh in 1997. Together, they have lead a Russian success story with the search engine Yandex, which has almost 62 percent of market share in the country, followed by Google at 25.6 percent. In the worldwide ranking, Yandex scores fourth, beating out Microsoft’s Bing. The company also develops a number of Internet-based services and products.
Yandex had raised $1.4 billion in its Initial Public Offering at Nasdaq in 2011 and is valued at $10 billion.
