Chennai Doctor Live Streams Surgery With Google Glass

Bangalore: India witnessed first of its kind surgery directly from the doctor’s visionary point from within the operation theatre. Chennai-based doctor, Dr.JS Rajkumar of the Lifeline Hospitals wore the Google Glass and live-streamed a surgery for the world to see. The surgery was streamed onto the Google Hangout which has an app to support Google Glass.

This new mode of sharing live information has a lot of educational benefits for medical students. “Medical College students around the world can watch and learn from landmark surgeries with no disturbance to the procedure. Expert surgeons from any part of the world can guide surgeons during difficult surgeries”, said JS Rajkumar in an interview with NDTV.

The Chennai-based hospital live-streamed an upper gastro-intestinal laparoscopy procedure performed on a 43-year old man and a hernia repair on a 46-year old woman to the medical students who were seated two blocks away by using the Google Glass.

India is the third country in the world to witness a live-stream surgery through the Google Glass. The Glass comes with a 5MP camera, 16GB internal memory with 12GB of user memory, a full day battery life and a bone conduction audio.
