Celebrating Earth Day, Apple Ensures Free Recycling Of All Used Products

BANGALORE: The tech giant Apple is continuing its attempt to become more environmentally conscious and responsible, by offering a free recycling for all its used products.

On account of Earth Day on Tuesday, Apple is focusing to make the company even greener. The Apple recycling program will be available at any Apple Store.

The Cupertino-based company posted the news on its official website, and promised to run all its data centers, retail stores and office with renewable energy to lessen the pollution caused by its products and online services.

Apple is detailing its attempt to develop a greener Apple with its environmental section posted on the website on Monday.

The company had handled out its gifts cards in some of its 420 retail shops globally in exchange for iPods and iPhones, which are still in good condition to be resold. And now the entire Apple store will offer free recycling of its old products. But gift cards will not be distributed for the recycled devices supposed to have little or no resale value.

This offer is applicable to the wide range of electronics, which are not supposed to be deposited in landfills as they are toxic. During the last seven years, Apple has sold out over 1 billion iPhones, iPads, iPods and Mac desktops.

As stated on the company website, Apple is emphasizing the steps put forward for a cleaner business model. For instance, 94 percent of energy used by the data centers and corporate offices are from renewable sources such as wind and solar.

Earlier today Apple has come up with new video that beholds the company’s environmental efforts. “Better have a look at the methods Apple is taking to decrease its impact on environmental change, find out a method to utilize greener materials, and conserve resources,” said CEO Tim Cook in the video.

“The company’s intention is to use all our innovation and all of our proficiency to make the earth safer and make the climate better," said Lisa Jackson, the Apple Vice President of Environmental Initiatives.
