Bringing the App World Close to the Android & iOS Developers


Bangalore: The rising popularity of mobile devices has led to a huge demand for mobile applications and this in turn led to a huge requirement for mobile application developers.

The availability of apps from all horizons ranging from games to entertainment to social networking, poised a stiff competition among the developers to deliver the best. In order for app development companies to be a big competitor in the market, they need to keep pace with the changing trends and apply the latest innovative ideas and style.

SiliconIndia in the same lane organized ‘Mobile Developer Conference’ with LIVE DEMOS on June 9, 2012 in Bangalore.

The two track event- Android and iOS threw light on topics ranging from Future Vision about Mobile Apps to User Behavior on Mobile Apps and from Developing a Basic App to Creating Location Based App. This conference was a huge success and was attended by over 400+ enthusiastic mobile app developers.

This conference was initiated with a Key Note Address by Sunil Maheshwari, CEO, Mango Technologies and Vaideeswaran Sethuraman, Founder & CEO, Divum.

Sunil while speaking on ‘Future Vision about Mobile Apps & What We Can Do from India’ said “We have a vast opportunity; in 2014 there would be 1 billion smart phones in the world providing budding app designers and entrepreneurs a chance to choose their target”. He encouraged Indian designers and entrepreneurs to take risks in exploring the market and bring out a revolution that is not only powerful but also influential.

Vaideeswaran from Divum addressed on the topic ‘Low Entry Barriers to Mobile Apps Development - Is it a Myth or Fact?’ and said that low entry barrier trends which is a fact but it’s not good enough for success. And also discussed on inserting one’s business model deep into one’s app is necessary and the market is still open for new entrants.

A panel discussion to discuss the User Behavior on Mobile Apps was moderated by Satyajeet Singh, Senior Product Manager-Mobile, Cleartrip.com. He informed that great apps can solve real life problems and a strong focus is required to provide a great user experience as it is one of the key components of a successful app. Roopesh Singh, Director Engineering and Head of Technical Pre-Sales & Solution Design, Huawei India R&D, shared views on how App Developers can present the appropriate content to end users depending on the Location, User Profile, Device Type or Network Connection, while Praveen Shivaswamy, Director, Aseema Softnet Technologies stressed the need to understand “revenue or business” model and once this model is understood, they will know what to sell and how to sell.

Speaking about Rich Ads in Mobile, Sumanth S, Principal Engineer, Yahoo! Said that there are huge opportunities for Ad creators to author Rich media Ads and talked more on the standards like MRIAD.

A tremendous focus on the app developer ecosystem is a fantastic opportunity said Vinay Uttamchandani, Product Manager, InMobi while elaborating on ‘Monetization of Apps.’

iOS Live Demos

To give an insight on the development and execution of iOS Apps, speakers in this track provided informative and useful LIVE DEMOS to the enthusiastic iOS app developers.

Design is the driving factor for any product. A good usable design can connect with users emotionally and encourage designers to collaborate with all the departments especially with developers said Bharathi Raja, Sr. Designer, Trellisys while discussing on ‘Design Principles to Follow While Developing an iPhone App.’

Altaf Rehmani, Projects Director, Redbytes Software discussed more on the Corona SDK as it provides a highly productive environment to develop 2-d games and graphical rich apps within fraction of time and cost using the super flexible and small LUA scripting language.

App Advertisements is going to take the major share of Online Display Ad Spend and that it will cross $4 billion by the end of 2012 said Manoj Verma, CTO, TechAhead. He further added that Online Display Ad is the safest way to generate revenue and it’s good to integrate Ad integrator over single Ad networks.

Amit Kankani, Head -Mobile Applications Development and Ruchir Vasavada, Software Engineer - iOS, Eterno Infotech shared insights on the NewsHunt App and they said “It’s necessary to provide to users with what they want such as contents in the language they understand.”

Android Live Demos

Speakers in the jam packed Android Track provided the enthusiast app developers with their well designed LIVE DEMOS on executing and handling errors for the Android App.

Live demo on the ability to design & develop custom android keyboards provided by Sachin Sharma, Founder, Dyulok Technologies and he also discussed key concepts like Android KeyboardView, Keyboard UI Xml files, Keyboard Action Listeners etc needs to be understood, in order to get started with android keyboard development.

Covering more on the Mobile Device Management (MDM) tools which provides multiple and diverse advantages both for the organization and the employee. Manjunath Bhat, Senior Manager - R&D and Manu Nazareth, Architect, AirWatch Technologies  also talked on how employees are guaranteed secure and real-time access to corporate information, be it in the form of email, applications or content and organizations benefit from the control they can exercise over end-users’ devices.

Shilpa Mahna Bhatnagar, Director Engineering and Abhishek Kumar Singh, Principal Engineer, Hughes Systique India discussed about connected applications and what are the good practices in developing such apps. Server components and mechanisms to host them on the cloud were also discussed.
