Bangalore: Bill Gates is the richest tech tycoon globally, thanks to mushrooming American technology sector that is backing him and other familiar names in technology around the world, according to a Forbes survey, reports TOI.

Bill Gates, the second richest person in the world on the Forbes list, had his fortune rise by $6 billion to $67 billion. Forbes accounted this fortune to Gates equity and other holdings, and not to Microsoft.

Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, is trailing Gates at second position with net worth of $43 billion, making him the number 5 overall on the Forbes list.

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com is at number 19 overall on the list, and is 3^rd in the tech sector with holdings valued at $25.2 billion. Google’s co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were close behind with $23 billion and $22.8 billion, placed at 4^th and 5^th place respectively.

Despite his company's woes, Dell founder Michael Dell held a fortune worth $15.3 billion, making him the sixth wealthiest tech billionaire.
