Bill Gates Slams Google On Floating Balloons

Bangalore: Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates slammed Google’s project to provide internet to farfetched terrain on the globe through huge floating helium balloons.

Google's Project Loon, sent 30 super-pressure balloons 20 Km up into the air from New Zealand in June. They will circle the globe offering internet to the countries that come in their range.

In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek Gates said, 'When you're dying of malaria, I suppose you'll look up and see that balloon, and I'm not sure how it'll help you.'

Gates, who donated $750million to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and malaria, questioned whether bringing the Internet to some of the world's poorest countries will really help their condition.

In 2006 Google launched its charity work through Google.org. The company also hired Larry Brilliant, a former WHO leader to lead the wing. However in 2006 Brilliant left his position.
