Bangalore School Orders Students To Delete Their Facebook Account

Bangalore: In July this year, Delhi High Court asked Facebook to upload a disclaimer on its home page mentioning that children below the age of 13 cannot open an account. The court also asked Central Government to notify what law it has for the protection of children from being abused through the social networking sites. And now, a new incident of social media bullying has forced a school to tell the students to shut down their Facebook accounts.

It all came out a few days ago when a 13 year old student of Vidya Niketan School in Hebbal went to the principal and poured her heart out about being bullied on Facebook, reports Times Of India.

"It was not the first case I'd heard about," said Lalitha Desikan, the principal. "Clueless about how to deal with demoralizing comments, kids get upset. They tell us how depressed they're over some comments posted by other kids. There's abusive language in comments about physical aspects like height, weight, complexion and economic status too."
