Apple Reveals Lack Of Diversity In Workplace

BANGALORE: Apple Inc, one of the best innovating companies recently filed a report where it revealed that most of its technicians were either white males or Asian men. There is no diversity in their teams with very less recruitment of blacks, Hispanics or women. This new statistics was unsatisfactory to the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, who wants better diversity in the company in every department.

The release showed that 54 percent of the company’s technology jobs were held by whites and 23 percent was held by Asian men, overall about 80 percent of the job was by men in the whole company.

"Let me say up front: As CEO, I'm not satisfied with the numbers on this page," Cook wrote. "They're not new to us, and we've been working hard for quite some time to improve them”, reports Contra Costa Times.

Recently two female executives were appointed in different departments, Angela Ahrendts was appointed to oversee the stores and Sue Wagner, was added to its eight person board of directors to its Cupertino branch. A Cuban American worker was promoted to Apple’s executive team as well.

Apple has been rallying into having a more diverse workforce and spoke out for the need of a mixed culture so in appreciation to this, Jackson congratulated Tim Cook on his stand. "It shows his personal commitment and his leadership," Jackson said in a statement. "I urge him to take further bold steps to make Apple better, and leverage his leadership to make the whole industry better," reports CC Times.

The company’s rally cry “Inclusion inspires Innovation” is a principal that Tim Cook stands by and wants the company to supports this cause be it inclusion of any group, gender, color or race. Though Apple leads with the most diverse workforce with 11 percent Hispanic employees and 7 percent Blacks, the CEO of Apple wants this number to change in the coming years.

In order to have more women, Hispanics and Blacks employees in technological jobs, Apple along with Google and other IT companies are taking the effort to steer financial aides for women and mino0rities to take up science and math in high schools. This way the companies attract more women and welcome them into jobs that are dominated by men. This will be the next battle or area of focus for many IT companies with Apple Inc leading the way.
