San Francisco: Apple Tuesday updated its computer products lineup with the launch of new notebook and desktop models.

At a press event held at San Jose in the US state of California, Apple introduced a new 13-inch MacBook Pro notebook computer with the high-resolution Retina display.

The new notebook is lighter and thinner than its previous generation, Xinhua quoted an Apple executive as saying.

"The 13-inch MacBook Pro is our most popular Mac, and today it gets completely reinvented with a new thin and light design, fast flash storage and a gorgeous Retina display," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,699.

The company also announced new all-in-one iMac desktop computer and new version of Mac mini, a small desktop computer shipped without a display.

The redesigned iMac has an edge which measures just 5 mm thin, and also features a completely re-engineered display that reduces reflection by 75 percent.

The new iMac starts at $1,299 with a 21.5-inch model and the 27-inch models priced as high as $1,999.

The 21.5 inch iMac will hit the market in November and the 27 inch models will be available in December.

Apple said that the updated Mac mini, featuring the latest Intel processors that are up to twice as fast as the previous generation of products, is available from Tuesday starting from $599.

In addition to the new notebook and desktop computers, Apple also unveiled the much-anticipated iPad mini, the smaller version of its tablet computer, as well as new full-sized iPad.

1: I think Apple computers doesnt give freedom to the users.Because,Even though the systems costs are feasible, but it(the system) supports only specific softwares which are very costly and it restricts us to use only those operating systems which are manufactured by apple. My openion is apple doesnt provide platform indepedence.
