Apple CEO Named Runner Up For Time's Person of the Year


Bangalore: "He inherited the most valuable company in the world from one of the greatest innovators in history. In 2012 he made Apple his own," said Time magazine, anointing Tim Cook, ‘the technologist’ to the runners-up position on its "Person of the Year."

U.S. President Barack Obama was named Time’s Person of the Year 2012, while Apple’s CEO shared the runners up list with the new president of Egypt, the Pakistani girl who was shot in the head for protesting, and the woman who was part of a team of scientists that isolated the Higgs boson particle.

Tim Cook, who took over Apple following the resignation and later death of Steve Jobs had lead the company to greater heights. Even though Jobs' choice of Cook as his heir apparent was questioned at the time, under Cook’s leadership, Apple became the most valuable company on earth in August 2012. According to Time, Cook, who is almost the polar opposite of Jobs, has done it his way.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer was also a Person of the Year candidate, the only one other than Tim Cook from the technology world. However, she hasn’t made it to the final list.
