Android Threatens Windows On The Desktop

Bangalore: The Internet search giant’s platform has taken the mobile and tablet segment by a storm. According to IDC, Android now accounts for 81 percent of Smartphone shipments–and is now looking to compete against Windows in the desktop PC arena, reports ZDNet.

It is not a hidden fact that PC sales were on the decline last few years, courtesy of tablets and Smartphones. In a bid to turn their sales figures around, PC manufacturers are now turning to Android; and being the most widely used mobile OS, the transition would be smoother for the consumers. Companies like Lenovo and HP have already released Android powered PCs; and ZDNet’s Larry Dignan believes that Android could break through on the desktop if certain aspects of the operating system such as security, is improved.
