Android Tablets Generate More Revenue Than iPad For The First Time

Bangalore: Marking the history, Android tablets overthrew Apple’s iPad tablets in terms of revenue generated, reports TOI. The Google powered tablets had already nailed the Apple tablets in number of shipments.

As per the report by Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty, Android tablets accounted for a greater share of revenue than iPad’s in the third quarter of 2013. Android’s revenue scale was on the higher side with 46.2 percent in the 3rd quarter when compared to iPad’s share of 45.6 percent during the same quarter. Android’s unit share stood at 58.5 percent the previous year and rose to 66.7 percent this year.

Astonishingly, the market growth for Android tablet is mainly driven by Samsung and Lenovo devices. According to International Data Corporation (IDC) report, Android products shipments are soaring high while Apple tablets is run of the mill and Windows tablets are struggling from not being knocked out of the race.

Lack of any new releases in the second and third quarter is thought to be the reason of the drop down in the shipment from 14.6 million in second quarter of 2013 to 14.1 million in the third quarter of the same year. According to IDC, the decision of Apple to launch its new products to the fourth quarter than from the start of the year has lead to this change. However, with the sales of new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina, the market share is expected to crank up.
