7 Inspiring Individuals in Science and Research Who Won Infosys Prize 2012


Bangalore: The Infosys science foundation today announced the prices honoring accomplishments of inspiring individuals in six field—Engineering and Computer Science, Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Sciences, Social Sciences and this year another field, Humanities was added, which includes two sub categories viz, History and Literary Studies.  Now in its fourth year, Infosys Prize ranks among the highest monetary awards in India that recognizes scientific research.

The jury chair for the Humanities category, Amartya Sen said “The Humanities as a cluster of subjects—Literary Studies, Philosophy, History, Art, and Legal Theory—compliment the traditional sciences and have a important role in broadening human lives, like science did. Having a prize in Humanities will ass incentive for younger people in the country to peruse these subjects. I am delighted that the Infosys Foundation is moving in this direction.”

The seven winners of the Infosys prize 2012 were informed of their selection earlier today by the trustees and Jury chairs who evaluated their work along with the panel members comprising of eminent scientists and professors from around the world.
