37 Year Old Apple-1 Computer Sold For 3.7 Crores

Bangalore: Apple may not be performing well with its stocks recently. But the devices once born from Jobs and Wozniac’s small garage are fetching huge sums in auctions across the world. The latest one to it is a 1976 made Apple-1 computer, sold for a whopping $671,400 (approximately 3.73 crore) at an auction held in Germany.

The device broke earlier record of $640,000 set by another Apple 1 computer sold at an auction in last November. According to Uwe Breker, the German auctioneer, “this really confirms the value of Apple-1’s.” However, the auctioneer did not reveal any details about the buyer except, “he is a wealthy entrepreneur from the Far East, who wishes to remain anonymous.”

The high price of this device, which could barely do a pinch of today’s powerful machines, may be justified by the charisma created by two college dropouts, who set out a dream entrepreneurship journey. The Apple-1s were designed and hand-built by Steve Wozniak and was marketed by Steve Jobs.

Approximately 40-50 Apple I computers are documented to exist with an indefinite number of possible unreported cases, making it a very rare collector's item. According to Breker, “It is a superb symbol of the American dream.”
