10 Technologies That Changed The World Of Sports

BANGALORE: Sports have become a part of life for people all around the world. It has grown over the centuries from what once was played in a primitive setup to larger than life spectacle displayed in monumental arenas. Apart from being a form of entertainment, it is also a means of income to many people who play sports professionally. In the past, human error in judging the game has caused huge riots and fights, so in order to avoid this error technology was introduce and are now becoming an integral part of every sport.

To save the integrity of the game, sports technology has taken shape over the years and is being adopted into many conservative sports.

Phantom camera: The Phantom camera was manufactured by Vision Technologies that captures action during sports regardless of the speed of the game.

The camera captures pictures at 5000 frames per second, which helps slow down the action to help officials give accurate decisions during tackles in football, run outs in cricket and studies whether the runner’s leg has hit the bag in baseball. This reduces human errors while officiating a game.

The Cyclops: Sounds Familiar? Well don’t get confused with the movie star in X-men. The Cyclops is a small box fixed at the sides of the court in tennis. The box projects five to six beams of lights and when the ball breaks these rays of lights the device gives out a loud beep. This happens when the ball hits the net in tennis.

It is a great piece of technology because the players serve the ball at high speed due to which the referees can miss a ball clipping the net but with the Cyclops in place; it allows the referees to rest easy.
