Bangalore: The flying robots in size of mosquitoes, depicted in Dan Brawn’s thriller fiction “Digital Fortress,” are too real to be called sci-fi. Then there are nanobots, which can run in blood stream and target cancerous cells. From a diagnostic computer that can be implanted into the eye of a glaucoma patient to memory circuits made from only a dozen atoms, scientists have been doing a lot with a “little.” By each passing day it is getting clearer that the next big things will come in microscopic forms. Read on to know 10 microscopic gadgets for a better tomorrow as compiled by InfoWorld.

#1 Print Your Own Batteries

If the researchers at Harvard and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have their way, you can soon print your own batteries. The scientists have created lithium-ion batteries the size of a grain of salt with a 3D printer that sprays conductive inks onto a glass substrate with gold wires. The battery's anode and cathode are composed of interlaced walls of lithium titanate and lithium iron phosphate that are 60 microns wide (1000th part of a millimeter), barely the thickness of a human hair. The really tiny batteries will one day power anything from your Smartphones to some electric implants in the body.
