10 Google Bombs That Will Stay Infamous


Bangalore: Have you ever heard of Google bombs? Well, there is no reason to get afraid until you are one of the victims. For beginners, this is how Wikipedia define Google bombs: “Google bomb refer to practices, such as creating large numbers of links, that cause a web page to have a high ranking for searches on unrelated or off topic keyword phrases.” Simply it is forcing or tricking the Google’s Search Engine to return a particular website as the first result for a completely unrelated word or phrase. 

The main victims of these bombs, formerly known as “search engine bombs” are politicians in which a negative word or phrase will be associated with them in political campaigns. But the first Google bomb in history was associated with a tech giant, where any search related to “more evil than Satan himself” displayed search results for Microsoft.

Google usually take measures to deactivate these bombs by removing the forced search results but some of them are still active.

1. George W Bush or Failure?

It is one of the most famous Google bombs. During 2004 U.S. presidential elections, any search for words “miserable failure” returned George W Bush’s White House Biography page as the top result. Bush was running for his second term in office at that time. Google later removed the search results but even today, the search for “failure” displays president’s biography page as one of the top results.

2. Murder Vs Abortion

This Google bomb appeared in February 2011, when some unknown pro-life activists were able to display the Wikipedia page for Abortion as the top Google search result for the term “murder.”
