Bangalore: Silicon Valley situated in southern region of the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California, in the United States, is the undisputed tech hub with innumerable number of tech companies and tech start-ups. But there are other parts of the world that too contributed to tech in many ways and are one of the biggest tech hubs in the world. Read on to know 10 biggest tech hubs that became fertile ground for mushrooming of technology as compiled by Rediff.



Some terms: Startup Index— Measures total entrepreneurship activity.  Index Funding— A type of mutual fund with a portfolio constructed to match or track the components of a market index, such as the Standard & Poor's 500 Index. Performance Index— This is done to provide a statistical measure of how performance changes over time.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer offered encouragement to Chicago's emerging tech community Wednesday, saying the city has the beginnings of the necessary elements to develop as a digital hub.



The city has fine universities, good quality of life and a growing venture capital scene, but still lacks solid tech anchors, he said.



"Right now you have some that are sort of emerging, like Groupon, and Motorola is sort of in flux," he said.



Here’s the list of some of the tech companies: Groupon, Orbitz, Coupon Cabin, Careerbuilder and many others.



Also, here are some emerging startups: Sprout Social, FeeFighters, Watermelon Express, Appolicious

1: When I started browsing the list, I was hoping that there should not be any Indian city in it, and there wasn't! Even today the Indian businesses look at technology the way a tribal would look at a gas turbine. The problem is with Indian businesses, not Indian engineers.
