The U.S. market is a three-way split between Samsung, Apple and all other phonemakers combined.

With the launch of a new iPhone on Sep 9, Apple -- which has a 25 percent share of the U.S. market -- will look to improve numbers and unseat the South Korean giant from its stronghold.
