Zomato Forays Into Ecommerce

Gurgaon: Gurgaon-based online food guide, Zomato has made an entry into ecommerce by launching an online ticket booking service for New Year events. The site which has more than 175,000 tickets would translate to more than 40 crore of ticket inventories. The website would make available tickets for more than 30 venues in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune, which would be open for purchase from 13 December 2011.

Co-founded in 2008, by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, Zomato was launched as a part time hobby with an intention to provide the people of Delhi and NCR with the maximum information possible about the food. The website now lists more than 17,000 restaurants across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.

Prior to founding Zomato, Goyal was a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain and Company, and he also Co-Founded Foodlet.com. He did his graduation in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Delhi.

Previously, Zomato has raised 13.5 crore from Infoedge, which also funded its initial round with an investment of 4.7 crore.
