Zomato Acquires New Zealand's MenuMania

BANGALORE: The India-based start up ‘Zomato’ has made its first global acquisition by buying out a famous New Zealand based restaurant discovery service, Menumania for an estimated deal of 5 Crore.

From the past 6 months Zomato has been expanding itself in the global markets with launches in Europe and Southeast Asia, while this move would be a strategic one to establish itself in the Pacific region.

"We are thrilled to welcome Menumania to Zomato,” said Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO, Zomato. "The Menumania team is very passionate about restaurants and helping people discover new places to eat. We look forward to working closely with them to leverage their local expertise. Together, Zomato and Menumania will be the largest resource of restaurant information in New Zealand, and I am sure both our users will love the integrated product once it rolls out over the next few weeks."

Zomato is the World’s largest restaurant guide which has services in 12 countries globally and has launched services in Auckland and Wellington, which ranks 1st and 2nd as the most populous areas in New Zealand with extending it to Hamilton last year. The Delhi-headquartered company offers restaurant menus, photos and allows you to rate and review them with creating foodie groups on it. Zomato was started in 2008 and present in 41 cities like India, UK, UAE, Philippines and Portugal.

Similarly, Menumania is a one of the big players in New Zealand which has been around for 8 years. As far as the acquisition is concerned, the founding team of Menumania will be working closely with Zomato and its website will eventually shift to Zomato.co.nz to maintain a single identity. The present restaurant reviews on Menumania will be put through the Zomato’s quality filters to ensure consistency.

Sahil Ludhani, Country Manager, Zomato NZ said, “Menumania will be a big boost for Zomato's relatively new business in New Zealand. Combined, we will be able to offer our users a large number of reviews and menus, all in one place, making Zomato the de-facto choice for users in NZ. We are also expecting our team to more than treble from the current size in the next six months.”
