Took By Storm, Startup Culture, Making Travelling Hustle Free


BENGALURU: Roughly carrying 23 million travelers or passenger a day, Indian railway is one of the world's largest railway networks. Every day, railway undergoes various changes and upgrades only to improve the facilities and services inside or outside trains. Still, most prevailing issues like booking a ticket, maintaining run-time of trains, receiving a good meal on board, theft, and safety are to be fought. In support to govt., fighting against all odds, some startups around the country have come up with effective solutions to transform the way we travel.

In the past few years, Indian youth, have taken some arduous initiative to help passengers by predicting availability of tickets, avail a hot meal for the passengers, social networking, plan itinerary, etc. In his recent Budget speech, Suresh Prabhu (Railway Minister) has announced a 50 crore innovation fund for startups set up by its employees to deal with critical problems in Railways. In accordance with TOI, take a look on some startups already altering the scenario with railways:

1. RailYatri – for travelling light

"If you could tell a customer that his tatkal ticket is not going to be confirmed at the time he is contemplating booking it, and he could save 300, he will remember you," says Kapil Raizada, co-founder of RailYatri. The app assists you in locating platform, gives live status of a train, pnr status and ticket confirmation chances for wait-listed tickets, and much more.

The company was founded in 2014, which now see over 3 million unique visitors every month, the users have doubled in the last six months. Kapil describes RailYatri as a data science company rather than an online travel assistance company. The company is expected to be profitable after gaining scale over the next 3 years.

"I believe in solving India-specific problems at scale. If they can make travelling by train more convenient, productive and enjoyable for millions, that is a worthy goal," says Nilekani. He says he likes the approach of RailYatri, which is building the old-fashioned way by satisfying each customer.
