Tech Companies Founded By Women Entrepreneurs

Fremont: Despite the achievements women have made in other spaces, entrepreneurship is one area where one still finds women in minority, especially in the technology sector. But among those who have taken a plunge, few have succeeded in creating a niche space for themselves. Below mentioned are few such women entrepreneurs who have founded or co-founded successful technology companies.

Caterina Fake

Known for founding companies like Flickr and Hunch, Caterina Fake is an American businesswoman and Internet entrepreneur.

She worked as Art Director at Salon.com in the 1990’s. Later in 2002, she co-founded Ludicorp with her then-husband Stewart Butterfield. But, the company went bankrupt within a year of its founding. However, the couple took one component of the technology they had created, a photo-sharing feature, and turned it into a website Flickr, which was acquired by Yahoo! in 2005.

In 2009, Caterina co-founded Hunch with Chris Dixon. The site is building the taste graph of the internet, mapping every user on the net to every entity, and their affinity for that entity. In 2011, the company got acquired by eBay.
