1. Frederick Henry Royce

Co-founder of Rolls Royce

The man behind one of the most successful car manufacturers of the world, Henry Royce barely had a year of formal education due to the unfortunate and untimely death of his father. At a very young age, Royce started selling newspaper and delivering telegrams. Before starting his business with Charles Stewart Rolls and launching the first Rolls-Royce car in 1904, Royce worked in many small time electric and power companies and working as a theatre light man.  Royce thus provided the technical expertise to complement Rolls' financial backing and business acumen. By 1907 the company was winning awards for the engineering reliability of its cars.
