Snapdeal Buys Another E-commerce Site eSportsBuy

Bangalore: Snapdeal, an online shopping portal, has acquired eSportsBuy, an online sports and fitness equipment and accessories retailer for an undisclosed amount. eSportsBuy was launched in 2011 by two IIT Delhi alumni Prateek Agarwal and Amit Monga.

Prateek Agarwal has completed his Bachelors in Computer Science from IIT Delhi after which he worked at firms like Nvidia, IBM, Amazon, and others. Amit Monga has done his Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi after which he gained experience in the domain of operations, analytics and consulting in firms like Diamond Management and Technology Consulting and others.

This is the second acquisition of Snapdeal till date. The first acquisition, Grabbon has changed company’s directions and helped it move aggressively in deals space. The acquisition of eSportsBuy will further help Snapdeal to foray into products, which is not yet exploited by online players.

Kunal Behl, CEO, Snapdeal, confirmed the acquisition. He said that the acquisition will help them expand their operations and strengthen their presence in sports retailing on the web given that they are hardly any organized retailers in the sector so far. To fund the latest acquisition, Snapdeal used a part of the 200 crore that it raised last year from Bessemer, Nexus and Indo-US Venture Partners.
