Online Food Startups Sale Rise Up This IPL Season

BANGALORE: The Indian Premier League season has not only brought smiles and cheers to its fans, but looks like it has given a booster to the online food and beverage sector. Online food startup companies like Just Eat and Foodpanda have said that there was rise in sales between 6 pm to 11 pm from the time the IPL seasons have started, reports the economic times.

"We saw a 30 percent rise in traffic and about 60 percent of our daily food orders were being placed after 6:30 pm which coincides with the match timings. We also saw a 15 percent increase in the average basket size during this IPL," said Rohit Chadha, cofounder of Foodpanda, a Rocket Internet-backed online food-ordering site.

Apparently, the online restaurant guide Zomato has seen an increase of 40 percent on the online traffic in the IPL match days too. It is not just the online food companies that have good sales, some of the Indian food outlets have seen close to 30 percent increase when the IPL team returned to India starting from May after the general elections.

"We have seen a spike of about 20-25 percent in demand for our Chai-on-Call flasks, by office-goers in the last month, especially during match days," said Amuleek Bijral, cofounder and CEO of Chai Point. Chai point is the delivery service by a startup company which recently raised close to 10 crore from Saama Capital, an Investment firm.
