Online Dating Services TwoMangoes Raises Angel Funding

Mumbai: With a new approach and perspective, online dating site startup TwoMangoes raised an undisclosed amount of angel funding from family, friends and Andy Jasuja, Chairman and Founder of Sigma Systems. The company plans to use the fund to launch and iterate their product. They are also looking forward for further investments.

Founded in 2010 by Anita Dharamshi, Paras Dharamshi, Rahul Bhardwaj and Richa Jain, TwoMangoes was formed when the team got inspired by the need to create something different for South Asians/Indians. The site allows the user to connect, meet and network with Indian singles all over the globe.

Commenting about the investors interest, Anita, Co-Founder, says, “The current set of angel investors believe in the TwoManoges’ vision and agree that although there are similar such products out in the marketplace, the company is extremely well positioned to capture a large part of the market share due to its unique online approach to social dating.”

The fund raised will be used toward development, social media and marketing activities. They are extremely cautious while spending the money and makes decision based on analytics and research to ensure a high level of returns. They also plan to have a pan-India presence. “The demand of the site is higher in Tier I and Tier II cities where people tend to be slightly more accepting of the concept of meeting people and dating, however we have many of our users from small cities as well,” says Anita.

The team of TwoMangoes currently have four founders and three early stage employees that bring a variety of expertise from product development, marketing and social media, strategy and analytics, SEO/SEM and financial operations.

Commenting on the competition, Anita says, “The traditional matrimonial sites seem to falling out of favor with the younger generation as their focus is much more matrimonial based, something which this generation don’t necessarily relate to. Up until now, there hasn’t been a new player that’s entered the market that appeals to the mass of young single Indians. Although there are many niche plays that have been introduced into the market, there is no one solution that satisfies the needs of this population.”
