Ola Plans To Tie-Up With Retailers To Deliver Groceries

BANGALORE: Taxi Titans Ola is deliberating on rounding off a delivery platform for groceries by deploying its armada of taxis.

The congregation front has brought forward the online Retailers for Grocery, while a number of high-profile newcomers are signaling their troops to take on specialist firms to drive daily home necessities, reports The Economic Times.

Ola attempts to shadow their rival, Uber in several foreign cities in which the U.S has undertaken its logistics.  Experts, however forewarn the hindrance that can befall the progress of Ola’s delivery venture due to India's overcrowded roads.

Moreover, a recent announcement made by BigBasket, affirms a massive collaboration with 1,800 neighborhood stores for prompt delivery. Similarly, less significant online grocers Local that include Banya, Zopnow, Grofers and PepperTap are shifting their attention to hyperlocal deliveries by forming alliance with local stores that pose as an asset-light mock-up that Ola is pursuing. Biggies like Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon are also seen entering the premises of the online groceries market.

"Right now we are exploring opportunities to see how we can leverage the cars we have on the road to do deliveries as well, and groceries is one of the top sectors we are working out," said an Ola executive.  He went on to state that the company is finding it hard to find a partnership to take the service forward; it is now scouting the terrain for offline retailers in the delivery line. It is a possibility that Ola might just launch a pilot by next month.

"Ola wants the retailer to do the packaging and picking of the orders and only focus on the delivery," said an on-demand grocer familiar with the development, requesting anonymity.
